Kochel am See is a smaller town situated on the lake of the same name (the Kochelsee). It is located at the bottom of the steep pass and the transport route which links the town to the Walchensee lake to the south. The German Alpine Road runs through Kochel from near Mittenwald heading towards Bad Tölz.

Der Walchensee
Walchensee is located about 80 kilometres south of Munich in the municipality of Kochel am See. It is one of the deepest, largest and probably also oldest alpine lakes in Germany. It owes its unusual depth of 190 metres to its special tectonic formation.
